As many of you know, the United States are also famous for their diet, high in carbs, fats, calories, and sodium. The standard American diet consists of ultra-processed and sugary foods and drinks, as well as unhealthy oils; whereas fruits and vegetables are precious little taken. Furthermore, many Americans don’t only follow an unbalanced diet, but neither practice any physical activity. One of the principal reason to this lies in the cheaper cost of all those kinds of food that don’t have any nutritional value and hence  it can’t be considered healthy. This affects especially low-income communities who prefer cheap food instead of healthy food.

Obesity and its symptoms

As a consequence of this extremely dangerous lifestyle, America has the highest number of obese in the world: almost 35% of adults in the U. S. are obese, and within 15 years this estimated number will statistically increase to almost 50%.

Obesity is often underestimated but it is one of the main causes of death among adults. It may be associated with cardiovascular illnesses, such as arterial hypertension, stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, as well as type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia, some kinds of tumours, feminine infertility, and depression.

What can be done and what is USA doing

In order to prevent  obesity, in the USA  are running many campaigns whose aim is to raise awareness and encourage the access to healthy food. Eating more vegetables and fruits, reducing all those calories taken by drinks, preferring proteins that contain saturated fats, and practice sports, is the bare minimum if you want to fight obesity.
